*Attendees must provide their own lap top. Lap tops can be Windows or Macintosh based. Most current version of a web browser such as Firefox or Chrome is preferred. Java and Flash players must be updated to accommodate media found on most social networking sites. Windows based computers must have Windows-XP or above operating system, and if Internet Explorer is the only browser available, it must be IE-7 or above.

Class A - Lecture: Introduction to Social Media, eCommunications & the Internet

• Investigations: Criminal investigations, Anti-Terrorism, Activism and Legal issues.
• Technology used: Technology and eCommunications.
• Strategies, Staffing, Training and Resources.
• eCommunications: News Media, Direct to the Public, Recruitment and Retention, Reputation Management, Emergency Operations and Crisis Communications.

You will learn:

• How to write news releases: what the news media and public want.
• Direct to the public and news media (demonstration, application, guidance, feedback).
• Creating basic user name and profile, instant message alerts and email for Twitter and Facebook.
• Website, strategies, and usage.
• Monitoring: reputation management, emergency operations and crisis communications.

Registration fee: $99 - This course is designed to educate the student on various aspects of social networking sites and how to utilize the internet as an investigative tool.

• How to develop an undercover social media persona.
• How to conduct investigations on social networking sites.
• How to utilize the internet as an investigative tool.
• Officer and family safety of social networking and the internet.
• Search warrants and preservation requests.
