Award of Distinction
Purpose

To recognize exceptional performance by any individual or departmental organizational unit that goes far beyond normal call of duty or service, and which enhances the Department’s efficiency, public image, and provides a great service to the community.  With this award, CPOA selects to recognize those acts that serve as a model to its mission of Building Future Law Enforcement Leaders.

Eligibility

1.      Sworn officer, non-sworn, or agency volunteer.

2.      Nominations may be made by anyone, but need to be approved for submittal by the nominee’s head of agency. 

Criteria for Consideration

 A.    There is no time limit on the service, but the program should be something that is unique, trend setting, and innovative.  In the instance of an ongoing program, nomination should convey a significant revision to current program to the benefit of public safety.

B.     Nomination should articulate results.

Nomination

The nomination can be made by any member of the department employing the nominee. The nomination must be supported and signed by the department head. Department heads may be nominated by the executive of their governmental agency, any member of the CPOA Board of Directors, or the executive director of CPOA.

Approval Process

Final review and approval is determined by the Awards Committee. Questions or clarifications may be requested from local region boards and/or the submitting agency. Please note that when considering the nomination of a team (defined as two or more public safety officers responding to a single incident), there is no guarantee that all members will receive recognition.  The actions of each team member nominated should be individually described, even though submitted as one nomination.
